Hemimorphite is believed to have been around since the 18th century, and was actually referred to as 'Electric Calamine'. The best specimens are found in Algeria, Mexico, Greece, Italy and Namibia. In ancient times it was said to  have the ability to ward off poisoning negativity, hatred and malice, and it was urged to carry a piece when venturing into unsettling environments. With its positive vibrations of happiness and uplifting energy, this stone is perfect for those days where emotions may be overwhelming. It activates and aligns the upper four chakras and assists in cleansing and balancing the aura. It is a symbol of self-awareness, peace, and spiritual growth. It can aid with strengthening self-confidence, balancing emotions and warming the heart.

Hemimorphite is often confused with Smithsonite - as the colours are similar - but you can easily tell the difference between the two crystals by its surface structure. In the case of Hemimorphite (a zinc silicate), it normally has an elongated crystal structure (bladed crystals) on the broken surface, with natural pit and/or druzy cavities. Smithsonite (a zinc carbonate) is usually a much smoother, slightly curved structure with no signs of bladed crystals.
